Dr. Bilal Mufti is an Assistant Professor (Group Head, Aerodynamics & Aerospace Design) in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the College of Aeronautical Engineering (CAE), NUST. He earned his PhD in Aerospace Design and an MS in Computational Science and Engineering from Georgia Tech. His research focuses on AI-based design and systems engineering, with emphasis on reduced-order and surrogate modeling for high-dimensional design spaces, including physics-guided machine learning and manifold learning for nonlinear aerodynamic prediction and optimization. As part of his doctoral research, he developed multi-fidelity surrogate modeling and propulsion–airframe integration (MDF) workflows for the FAA–NASA ASCENT50 over-the-wing nacelle aircraft design, and created optimization-under-uncertainty and uncertainty quantification tools for MBSE-enabled aircraft design in collaboration with AIRBUS.
